I’ll be switching over to BMI. I’m very disappointed with ASCAP and feel like I’m being robed by them. Unless I hear some logical explanation from them in the next few days I’m going to start telling the story of how BMI paid royalties to one song writer and ASCAP paid 0.00 royalties to the primary song writer during the same period of time and on the same music.
ASCAP explanation to my Publisher was not enough money to mess with. “really”? How much is not enough to fool with?????? What they meant to say is I’m not worth messing with. Judging by the royalties he received from BMI, ASCAP owes me a few hundred dollars.
I was told ASCAP was the better PRO when I signed up, but now I can compare their performance side by side. Because my co-writer is with BMI and I’m with ASCAP as a writer and Publisher.
Just wanted to tell my little story so those that are deciding which PRO to go with can consider my experience. I’m sure BMI has their problems to, but all I have gotten out of my PRO is a serious runaround and insults. Believe me I would not make this complaint if it wasn’t true. I do care about my online reputation even if some company’s don’t namely ASCAP.

Thanks for writing about it. I’ve had my difficulties with IAM too, but I still work with them(him). The music industry is full of crooks, hiring lawyers is too expensive, and you can’t necessarily trust them either. We’ll just have to labor on.. .
Sorry about your problems, good that you have educated yourself. Maybe you sell more than I do. At this point I get significantly more income from IAM, than cdbaby, don’t know why, cd baby has been a disappointment to me, all that raving Derek S does, but if it’s good for you, no problem. Other people have not been happy with IAM, but given everything I’ll keep going with them…Sony owns my back catalog and they say I owe them 60 thousand. Being a rock star is not all it seems.

IODA refused to take my tunes on their own merits, with their label. Nor would they give many any access to their accounting process of itsaboutmusic. The end result was that a song that is in the last x-files movie for 90 seconds, is now not for-sale digatly till i’m released from the ORCHARD contract, that i had to pay to 150 dollars to sign, that would not allow my tunes the freedoms i wanted with them. The orchard do stuff like lock down your last-fm account, and other evil stuff, maybe IODA do the same. What the Orcahrd did was not legal, yet what rights do artists have with-out lawyers anyway. thanks for your comment.
